DAAD 2020 – Koło Naukowo Badawcze GIS

The members of the GIS Scientific and Research Group operating at the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology of the Wrocław University of Technology had the opportunity to participate in the scholarship programme "Trips to Germany for student groups" organised by the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). The trip was attended by a group of 15 members of the GIS Scientific and Research Group and its tutor, Professor Jan Blachowski.

The first stop on their journey was the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg. They visited to the amazing exhibition Terra Mineralia - a museum containing 3500 of the most beautiful mineral exhibits from the collection of Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher.

Then they visited to the Technische Universität Dresden. The members of the GIS Scientific and Research Group went to the Staatsbetrieb Geobasisinformation und Vermessung Sachsen (GeoSN) - one of the departments of the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior which supervises altitude models and aerial photography. They also took part in field activities prepared by the institute staff.

The next stop of their trip was Munich, where they visited to the Technische Universität München. During the meeting, they got to know the organisation of the Institute and the teaching directions conducted there. Very interesting were presentations of research projects carried out by researchers.  

The next stop was a visit to Berlin. They participated in the INTERGEO Digital 2020 – the conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management. On the last day of their trip they visited to GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam.
