Dr. Eng. Piotr Bortnowski Awarded the Prestigious START Scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science
We are proud to announce that Dr. Eng. Piotr Bortnowski from the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology at Wrocław University of Science and Technology has been awarded the START scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science — one of the most prestigious scholarship programs for young researchers in Poland.
This exceptional distinction confirms the high quality of research conducted at our Faculty and highlights the innovative nature of the scientific work carried out by our academic community.
In this year’s edition of the program, Wrocław University of Science and Technology received as many as five START scholarships, achieving the best result among all technical universities in Poland. We are especially pleased that one of the laureates represents our Faculty.
About the START Program
The START program of the Foundation for Polish Science is the oldest scholarship program in Poland dedicated to young researchers under the age of 30. Each year, only 100 outstanding scientists from across the country, representing all fields of science, are selected as laureates.
The selection committee evaluates primarily:
- the quality and originality of scientific achievements,
- the innovative character of the conducted research,
- the future potential of young scientists.
The laureates receive an annual scholarship of PLN 30,000 to support the further development of their scientific careers.
Research Areas of Dr. Piotr Bortnowski
Dr. Piotr Bortnowski’s research focuses on modern engineering solutions for industry and geoengineering, particularly in the areas of:
- the application of machine learning methods for diagnostics and optimization of mining machinery, crushers, and conveyor belt systems,
- process data analysis aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of industrial systems,
- participation in European Union projects related to the circular economy, including initiatives focused on the use of post-mining waste for hydrogen and geopolymer production.
