Dr. Jarosław Wajs Receives NAWA Grant for Poland–Germany 2025 Project

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jarosław Wajs from the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology at Wrocław University of Science and Technology has been awarded a grant from the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the “Joint Research Projects Poland–Germany 2025” program.

Dr. Wajs’s project, titled “Monitoring Geo-Environmental Hazards in Post-Mining Areas (MITIGATE)”, focuses on developing a comprehensive approach to monitoring areas at risk due to mining activities. The project team will utilize advanced remote sensing technologies, satellite data from the Sentinel and Landsat missions, and field measurements within a GIS environment.

The research is conducted in collaboration with the German Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA) in Bochum. The project aims to support environmental protection, public safety, and responsible management of areas affected by historical mining.

The project’s academic supervisor is Prof. Jan Blachowski from the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology.
