Student Passion and Tradition: Members of the "Górnik" Student Scientific Association Visit a Local Primary School
Activity within the scientific associations of the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology is not only about research and developing engineering competences, but also about sharing knowledge and passion with the younger generation. A perfect example of this is a recent initiative by the members of the "Górnik" Student Scientific Association, who visited the pupils of Primary School No. 77 in Wrocław on May 15, 2026.
The meeting aimed to introduce the children to the specifics of the mining profession and to demonstrate the essential role that the extractive industry plays in Poland's economy and tradition. Our students showed great creativity, combining education with interactive workshops.
The program of the event included:
-
A presentation of the elements of the traditional gala uniform as well as everyday working attire,
-
An introduction to the history, customs, and rituals associated with "Barbórka" (Miners' Day),
-
Educational games and activities, including counting the buttons on a mining uniform together and themed coloring workshops,
-
An opportunity to try on the traditional "czako" (miner's hat) and take commemorative photos.
Such initiatives prove that the academic community of the W6 Faculty is capable of talking about complex industrial topics in an accessible and engaging way, sparking curiosity about the world and respect for the demanding work of a miner in the youngest minds.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Management of Primary School No. 77 in Wrocław, the teaching staff, and in particular to Ms. Maria Szostek – the tutor of class 2B – for the invitation and the exceptionally warm welcome extended to the representatives of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
We congratulate the members of the "Górnik" Student Scientific Association on this successful initiative and thank them for worthily representing our Faculty in the public sphere.
