Technical and Educational Field Trip to the Railway Tunnel Construction Site in Łódź
On 20 April 2026, a group of 15 third-year students of Geodesy and Cartography at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, following the engineering geodesy specialization track, participated in a technical and educational field trip to the railway tunnel construction site in Łódź. The trip was attended by Dr. Zbigniew Muszyński, Dr. Jarosław Wajs, and Dr. Robert Gradka.
The visit was organized courtesy of Geoprzem, represented by Mr. Dariusz Tomaszewski. During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about practical aspects of geodetic works related to the operation of the TBM machine and the geodetic monitoring of the tunnel excavation’s impact on the mining area.
The construction project was also presented by the site manager from Budimex, Mr. Jacek Woźniak, who discussed issues related to the construction of the retaining structure of the “Retkinia” chamber and the “Fabryczna” turnout chamber.
Mr. Rafał Wesoły, Geodetic Monitoring Coordinator at Geoprzem, together with surveyors working on the project – Mr. Marcin Góra and Mr. Mariusz Kwiatkowski – guided the participants around the construction site, presenting selected elements of geodetic and geotechnical monitoring, including piezometers and inclinometers.
The trip was also attended by a group of 14 Civil Engineering students from Wrocław University of Science and Technology accompanied by their supervisor, Mr. Michał Zawodny.
The organization of the trip was possible thanks to the cooperation agreement signed on 23 July 2025 between Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Geoprzem in the fields of education, internships, technical and educational visits, joint research activities, and diploma projects.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Geoprzem for organizing this valuable and inspiring educational visit, which allowed students to become familiar with modern solutions applied in large-scale infrastructure projects.
